After the unprecedented success of GB crews at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing, the Friends of Rowing at the River & Rowing Museum are hosting an evening on Friday, 21 November to meet three outstanding athletes from the British team. It will be a great chance to join the Olympians in lively and informal discussion with plenty of opportunity for audience participation.

It promises to be a memorable occasion and the Friends are happy to open it to non-members at a nominal charge of £10 (£5 for students and under 21s with ID).

The Earl of Wessex will take over after the CCPR’s Annual General Meeting in July 2009. Becoming President will add to His Royal Highness’s involvement in sport and recreation in the UK and will complement his patronage of a number of CCPR’s member organisations.

Brigid Simmonds OBE, CCPR Chair, believes that The Earl of Wessex is a natural successor to The Duke of Edinburgh.

Most of the rowing through the war years was done by the schools. All rowing clubs were reported as being greatly affected owing to the majority of active members having joined his Majesty's Forces.
